Guilty Pleasures

Exploding heads comics like Marvel's Punisher are not usually my cup of tea -- until, that is, I picked up a pile of the paperback collections under the Garth Ennis byline. Ennis is such a fine comic book writer that in no time I found myself hooked on these potty-mouthed blood and sex-drenched black humor monsterpieces and avidly hunting for more. More!

Barracuda, banned in Singapore, is a particular favourite because of the twisted artwork of Croatian cartoonist Goran Parlov set to a typically bizarre Ennis script. Ayn Rand, who cited Mickey Spillane as her favourite author in a Playboy interview, would have loved The Punisher series.

Fans of the series can look forward to a new movie, Punisher: War Zone, with Ray Stevenson as haunted title character Frank Castle. A Preview is online HERE.
