Vaughan Shoemaker
In the roaring twenties Vaughan Shoemaker, winner of two Pulitzers was known among his confreres as the “gospel cartoonist of The Daily News.” One day an aspiring cartoonist asked him how he began a cartoon. “On my knees,” he replied, “with a prayer.” Shoemaker spent a lot of his spare time giving illustrated lectures in American Sunday Schools and working with Christian charities.
*Thanks to Don Kurtz for the autographed illustration.
