Two more volumes by prolific author Alan Clark in his Half-Holiday series detailing comic history in the UK. Comic Papers Between the Wars 1919-1939 covers lot of ground in two small size (A5) volumes packed with illustrations, biographies, and photographs of publishers, editors, authors and writers of the period discussed. Book one covers nursery comics, vaudeville comics, film comics and the beginnings of the adventure strip with a nice section on Walter Booth’s adventure strip Rob the Rover. Book two continues with the introducing of the new technology of photogravure to such papers as Mickey Mouse Weekly and later Happy Days with much more about “the remarkable afterlife of Rob the Rover” in Norway and other countries.
