Mary Tourtel (1874-1948)

The originator and first illustrator of Rupert was Mary Tourtel, who created him in November 1920 in the Daily Express and retired in 1935. Punch cartoonist Alfred Bestall followed and drew it throughout the sixties. Here is a rare glimpse at the artwork of Mary Tourtel.
