Fred Meagher (1912-1976)

Fred Meagher, a native of Clearfield, Pennsylvania, was selected by United Features Syndicate editors to draw the action-packed feature Buffalo Bill which began August 14 1950 and ran to July 28, 1956. Meagher was an Alfred graduate, former rancher and cavalryman. He was well known as a breeder and trainer of horses and as an outstanding rider.

“He is considered one of the foremost artists of equestrian subjects. He has illustrated many best-selling Western stories, and is a stickler for accuracy in every situation. Adventure strips are nothing new to him. For four years he produced “Wings Mayfair” for the “Gulf Funny Weekly,” and for several years thereafter he depicted the exploits of his friend, the late Tom Mix in a “Western” strip.”
