we lost that battle. the Americanization thing, anyway. not the comics in newspapers battle. everyone just kind of gave up on that one about 50 years ago.
It's an interesting subject. Part of it had to do with the difference in populations but I think Canadian literature, cartoons and all suffered from an elitist attitude on the part of producers and consumers of Canadian culture. Nothing is so smug as a Canadian editorial cartoonist. Noses flew up in the air over vulgar culture like comics.
