Cartoons can be an excellent medium for illuminating the far past. I was aware of the popularity of German souvenirs during both world wars but three of these H. T. Webster cartoons involve spiked Boche helmets -- as presents for little brothers, girlfriends and as mantle-piece victory ornaments.
